Birth Photography — why it is almost unknown
It’s strange, really.
In Eastern Europe — Russia, Ukraine, Belarus —
birth photography is thriving.
But to enter a hospital, photographers must go through endless approvals, health checks, official permissions.
It’s a small miracle to even be allowed inside.
And yet… families want it.
They fight for it.
They understand its value.
In Germany, Austria, France — it’s the opposite.
It’s easy to arrange,
the atmosphere is open and respectful —
but almost no one asks for it.
But I believe one day that will change.
Because birth is not about medicine — it’s about becoming.
It’s where a child is born, and a mother is, too.
And as a photographer, it breaks my heart to know
how many of these powerful stories remain unseen.
Birth photography isn’t about courage or trend —
it’s simply about saying:
“This day matters.
And I want to remember it.”
