When is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?

The ideal time is usually between 28–34 weeks, when the baby bump is nicely visible and you still feel comfortable moving.

Every pregnancy is unique, so if your timing is different — just let me know and we’ll choose the best format for you.

Once you have a general idea of your timing, the next step is usually choosing the date and the format of your session.

About your comfort and the pace of the session

Feeling tired or slightly swollen on the day of the shoot is completely normal.

We work at a calm pace, take breaks when needed, and choose poses that are both flattering and comfortable.

Outfits & styling: why it’s important to discuss in advance

It’s very important for me to know your planned outfits in advance.

This allows me to:

  • prepare the right backgrounds and lighting
  • choose fabrics, props, and details that match your look
  • keep the session smooth and relaxed, without rushing

You can:

  • choose outfits from my studio wardrobe (link below)
  • mix my pieces with your own
  • or come fully in your own clothing

👉 Please send me photos of the selected outfits in advance — even simple phone pictures are perfectly fine.

Studio wardrobe

I offer a carefully curated maternity wardrobe, including:

  • dresses and fabrics that beautifully highlight the baby bump
  • soft, neutral tones
  • pieces that move well and photograph beautifully in different lighting

If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to help you choose.

References — always welcome

If you like:

  • specific photos from my portfolio
  • images from Pinterest or Instagram
  • a certain mood or atmosphere

👉 Feel free to send any references.

They help me better understand your taste and expectations. We don’t copy other shoots — references are just guidance.

Lingerie: a small detail that makes a big difference

Please bring a few lingerie options:

  • neutral colors: nude, beige, white
  • black lingerie — great for more contrast or dramatic looks
  • lace lingerie — looks beautiful with sheer and airy fabrics
  • seamless underwear — ideal for tight dresses and thin materials
  • bras with removable straps or strapless styles

This gives us more flexibility during the shoot.

Makeup & hair

Even light makeup and simple hairstyling:

  • even out the skin tone
  • highlight your features
  • make the overall look more polished

You can:

  • come with your own makeup and hair done
  • or book my professional makeup artist before the session

💄 Please let me know in advance if you’d like this service.

Partner’s and children’s outfits

If your partner and/or children join the session, their outfits also matter for a cohesive look.

Recommendations:

  • choose light, neutral colors
  • avoid dark jeans, heavy fabrics, strong contrasts, and busy prints
  • keep silhouettes simple and timeless

Safe, timeless choices:

  • white or cream casual shirts
  • light trousers or chinos
  • plain T-shirts without logos

Footwear:

  • light-colored socks
  • or barefoot — often looks very natural and harmonious

Additional important notes

  • If possible, avoid tight clothing the day before the shoot to prevent marks on the skin. In winter this is not always realistic — and that’s absolutely fine. All selected photos are professionally retouched, and temporary skin marks are gently removed.
  • Please avoid strong cosmetic procedures 3–5 days before the session (chemical peels, injections, laser treatments, or new active skincare). Your usual gentle routine is perfect.
  • Neat, natural-looking manicure is important, as we always include close-ups of hands. Nude, milky, or natural tones work best.
  • If you’d like to include personal details, feel free to bring:
    • baby booties or tiny clothes (I also have some in the studio)
    • an ultrasound photo
    • a small meaningful item, if you wish
  • Bring water and, if needed, a light snack.

Retouching & communication

All selected images receive professional, natural retouching, with careful attention to skin, light, and color — without losing authenticity.

If anything feels uncomfortable during the session — a pose, outfit, or pace — please tell me.

Your comfort and confidence are always a priority.

If you didn’t have time to prepare perfectly

If preparation didn’t go exactly as planned — that’s absolutely okay.

I’ll guide you through the process, help with styling, and adapt to the situation.

Any questions?

If you’re unsure about:
